Alfa Romeo - Appearance.
The Alfa 164 has the typical Italian designed style it is a four door saloon but looks and feels like a performance vehicle. However later models were refined and this lifted the 164 into BMW and Mercedes territory.
Alfa Romeo - On the Road.
The 164 is a performance vehicle, the 2.0 engine does what it should, the V6 is very nippy and the 24V delivers what is needed for true sports performance. Depending on models the additional extras which come as standard vary, the 2.0 TS has tinted glass and cloth trim, with the super adding body coloured bumpers, fog lights and climate control on the V6. The Lusso model will bring in the alloy wheels. Revisions to the 164 in May 1993 saw a new grille and revised suspension. The 164 has sharp precision steering and excellent handling, the suspension is taut and the car displays excellent stability.

The interior in the 164 consists of a big cabin, spacious driving and apart from the odd squeak inside the vehicle a comfortable drive. Only on certain models will you find leather interior as standard for instance the cloverleaf range does include this extra.
Alfa Romeo - Safety. & Security.
The safety on the 164 leaves little to write about, ABS is standard on most and an airbag was fitted as standard after March 1995. In relation to security the early cars were lacking however after 1993 alarm and immobiliser were fitted as standard.
Alfa Romeo - Reliability.
The 164 although an excellent vehicle can be known to have gearbox problems, gear linkage is also known to wear which could leave some cars jammed in gear. Under heavy acceleration the V6 engine can be known to misfire due to faulty engine management also on the V6 tyre wear at the front is heavy and clutch wear is common.
