Alfa Romeo - Appearance.

The Alfretta and GT introduced in 1972 and 1974 were both designed by Giorgio Giugiaro, the Alfretta a three box four door saloon whose front end utilised double wishbones and torsion bars, while the GT a two door coupe which shared the same chassis however had a shorter wheel base and sportier image.

The early Alfretta fitted with a modified 1750 engine which produced 122Bhp was joined in 1974/5 when the range was revised with a 1.6 engine sporting 109Bhp the 1.8 barely changed and any changes where internally. 1977 saw the 2.0 engine available in Europe, in 1979 the Alfetta GTV 2000 Turbo delta gave the range a serious performance model, this was developed for rallying and kicked out 175Bhp. 1980 saw the range as a whole being revised image wise with black instead of the chrome bumpers and 1981 produced the GTV6, 2492cc with a V6 engine and 160Bhp. Image wise the GTV6 is easily identified by the large bulge in the bonnet. The Gold Cloverleaf launched in 1982 was the final model produced in the Alfetta range with a Turbo diesel version following.

The interior in all the Alfetta range was continuously modified in relation to the revised models that were introduced. The interior was the main revision of the original model in 1975 and then again in 1977 the interior was modified.

Alfa Romeo – Reliability.

Surprisingly enough there aren’t many reports of faults or common issues on this model in general as always regular maintenance will benefit any used car. The GTV6 has problems with the timing belt tensioner, a tip for this is use the 164 item which lasts longer and with this they also perform better.
